About Kevin
An Advocate for All
Kevin Kim has lived in Valencia for the last six years, finally finding a place to call home. He is married and a father of three kids – the oldest two at Valencia High and his youngest currently a fourth grader at Bridgeport Elementary. Kevin has worked for the past 20 years as an attorney for prominent law firms – 12 years in New York City and the last eight in Los Angeles.
Kevin started giving back to the SCV community by coaching his kids’ baseball and basketball teams, building connections with students and families throughout the community. Recently, he has turned his focus to education. Kevin was selected to serve on the Asset Management Committee for the Saugus Union School District to advise on the disposition of the Santa Clarita Elementary School site. Kevin was also elected to the School Site Committee of Bridgeport Elementary, currently serving as Chairman, where they study and approve the education and safety plans for the school.
From serving on these committees, Kevin bore witness to much good in our schools: community engagement, hard-working teachers and administrators, and students who love to learn. But he also noticed areas in need of change: lack of communication between schools and parents as well as a Board that needed to ask more questions and challenge assumptions made by administrators, and a need for more transparency about decision-making.
First and foremost, Kevin knows the heart of a parent, specifically the heart of an SUSD dad. He understands that clear, consistent and detailed communications from the schools to the parents regarding plans for educating their children build trust and engagement.
Additionally, Kevin will bring his experience as an attorney, the lessons he learned working on District committees and the relationships built through volunteering with him onto the Board. He will ask questions and examine every proposal to make sure everything adds up. Kevin appreciates all the hard-working teachers that have taught and still teach his kids and will make sure that their voices are heard. He knows that safety in the classroom is at the top of their minds.

But most importantly, Kevin knows his “why” in why we must build the best schools. He sees his daughter’s smile and all the faces of her friends, schoolmates and teammates. We must succeed for their sake.
Priorities
Focused on What Matters
Students First
Everyone says that students must come first, but for Kevin, this is his mission. His daughter is in the District. Her schoolmates she has known since Kindergarten are in the District. The kids he has coached are in the District. Kevin has built personal relationships with these kids and their families- he will not let them down. He has grown to deeply care about this SUSD community and will help them soar.
Experience Matters
Kevin was selected to be on the Asset Management Committee for the SUSD. Here he worked with administrators, listened to the community and helped reflect community priorities in District planning. Kevin serves as Chairman of the School Site Council for Bridgeport Elementary, working with the principal, teachers, and parents to review the academic and safety plans for the school.
Building Trust
The Board needs to build trust among parents, teachers, students and administrators. The only way to do that is to communicate and be transparent. We must make everyone feel that they can participate and be heard. Kevin will use his 20 years as an attorney to make sure that everyone has a voice at the table.
